Why we're here..

Numan Orphange is located in Asela, Ethiopia south east of Addis Ababa. It is a 3 hour drive by car; beautiful and breath taking the entire way. If you have ever been there it is a place you will never forget. Numan orphanage serves it's community by being a refuge for children in the midst of extremely difficult transition. Children ranging from 0 months to 15 years call Numan their "home", some for a very brief moment and others for an extended period of time. It is a place especially close to my heart since it was a "home" for my son during his time of need.

Numan is experiencing their own transition and moving to a new facility. Since they are expanding and will most likely be meeting the needs of more families. They find themselves in need. This Blog was established to help Numan attain these items in order to aid them in becoming more efficient in helping families and children in their community while making life more comfortable for those who live there. There are currently 27 children at Numan. We hope that through fundraising and donations we will meet the needs of the children at Numan and for those caring for them.

I would also like to clarify that this blog is not a part of Children's Hope International. They are being kind in allowing us to use them as a vessel to serve Numan.

We finally have pictures!!

It has taken quite awhile, but we have some pictures of what has been purchased for Numan Orphanage. Those of you who made a financial donation should have received a letter in the mail with a brief update and some pictures. We hope that it was encouraging to your hearts to see the fruit of your wonderful generosity.

Infant room with new cribs and bedding

Second infant room with cribs and bedding

New desk chair and refridgerator!!

Director at new desk

"Before Numan has one room for infants, but now it has three. The cribs in the two rooms are new, all the mattresses, and the bedding materials. The nurse room is well organized with table, chair and refrigerator for medicines. Inside the director's room you find two new tables that are bought by the donation plus a shelf. The only thing that is left is the swing and that is under construction."

They also have new bunk beds with bedding, for the older children, that is not pictured here, but was pictured in the news letter. Once everything is complete CHI will send me a detailed receipt of the expenses which I will post for you to see.

We are so thankful to God for His mighty provision. This new facility is far better equipped and in much bettter condition than the old facility!! We pray that these children would not only know physical warmth and comfort, but come to know the comfort and fullness of His love and grace.

Thanks again and Grace to you!!!

Here are the reasons we started this fundraiser. It will be one year on Saturday that we saw his face for the very first time. We submitted our dossier April 4th and were told that we would wait about 10 months for a referral. Six weeks later, we got THE CALL. It was truly amazing. Our lives have been so blessed. We hope that the love and effort everyone put forth to reach our goal will be poured out on the children waiting to be united with their families.

We did it!!!

I am overwhelmed with joy!! When I can stop crying I will post more.

85% BABY!!!

Can you believe that we are 85% funded!! Thanks to some very loving donations yesterday we are getting closer. I had someone donate the other day who was still in the process of putting together her dossier. It occured to me that because of her willingness to give to Numan, she could possibly be purchasing the blanket that will keep her little one warm, the crib where they might sleep at night, or the swing that will bring joy on a sunny day, she has the chance to possibly be loving on her little one until they get to meet face to face. Oh, how we never truly know the extent of our generosity.

Thanks to those who are sharing with their internet communities. It is so helpful.
Keep praying.

Go ahead and Stand Up!!

Go ahead and Stand Up!! Stand up and Praise God for His goodness!! I think that I am overwhelmed with joy, peace, excitement, grace, and pure giddiness. Today was a HUGE day for all of us. By "us" I mean those who have been supportive through prayer, those who have graciously donated, and those who have partnered with us by sharing this blog. This journey started with my husband and myself, but through a common cause to love and support these little ones, it has expanded to an amazing and loving collective body.

Through God's incredible mercy and working through the heart's of some truly wonderful people, we received donations today totaling $1689!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I checked, doubled checked, and tripled checked. God is good....ALL the time. I think one of the things that I appreciate most is that I don't know how much people have donated. So, God is the one who gets all the Glory.

We are only in need of $1097 to reach our goal. Please continue to pray and pass along this blog.

On behalf of "us" Thank you. Thank you

God's Perfect Timing

I just received an email from the project coordinator at CHI letting us know that Numan is in desperate need.

Here is what the adoption director in Ethiopian stated in his email about Numan, "The orphanage is badly in need of cribs and bedding materials because there are orphans that need a place but the director can't accept them due to their need for cribs and bedding."

Praise God we have raised over $2500! Those funds can be wired today and be used to purchase what is needed. We are still commited to raising the entire amount of
$5337. Please consider donating today if you have not and your prayers are so valuble, so keep praying for God's provision.

Thanks again to those who have so graciously partnered with us.

God continues to be faithful. We are so thankful for a large donation we received over the weekend! We are almost 50% funded. A wonderful family we know and love pulled together and made a wonderful contribution. We are making plans for a raffle and looking forward to seeing God at work. We ask that you continue to share this blog and pray that we will meet our goal. It has been a little over two weeks since we started and we will soon set the deadline for when the fundraiser will end. Thank you so much for your prayers, support, and contributions. Thanks again for everything. May God be glorified in all we do. By the way, did you love the video we posted below? It is a favorite with our kids!

Praise God!

God is continuing to bless the children at Numan by working in the hearts of some very WONDERFUL people. Throughout this process it has been great to see God display His amazing love and care for orphans. We have also received a few encouraging emails from parents who have brought little ones home from Numan and it is so wonderful to have support from them!

I wanted to address a question I received about why we don't give to Numan directly; I was never able to get contact info after the new director came into position and I also liked the accountability that CHI was able to offer concerning fund distribution. I really have peace of mind knowing that we can have confirmation that the funds will be spent appropriately.

Well, we look forward to seeing this fundraiser to completion. So, please spread the word and pray for God's grace and love to be revealed to the children and staff at Numan.

What's goin' on??!!

The past few days have been just A-MAZING! I really did not expect to receive any donations today. And today..we had two donations adding up to $620! This is really just a miracle to me. I am speechless.

Some of you have been inquiring about how much Numan will receive. 100% of your donation will go straight to Numan. Children's Hope International does receive 15% of all donations for administration fees, wiring fees, bank fees (credit card donations), online donation verification service fees, and they oversee fund distribution by requiring a photo and receipt of all purchases. This provides much appreciated accountibility. However, an anonymous donor has agreed to pay 15% of the $5337, which is $800.55, so that every cent of your donation goes to Numan!! Is God totally awesome or what. Please partner in praying that God will Bless the socks off of those who have generously donated. Thank you so much!!

Pitter Patter

Pitter Patter...that's the sound my heart makes when I receive an email that a donation has been made to the fund. Today, God was faithful and worked in the hearts of two wonderful people who made a donation totaling $285! We are 25% funded! I haven't even had the amazing bake sale yet. Wow...really..wow..

Sunday, April 11, 2010

So, late Saturday night I was suddenly overwhelmed with fear of failure. I found myself thinking, "Why I did start this fundraiser? What if we can't raise the funds? Am I the right person to Champion this cause?" Feeling defeated and overwhelmed. Just then I decided to email a friend. I opened up my email to find that someone had made a donation to the fund. Not only a donation, but our FIRST donation.
Within half a second I felt God's faithfulness rush over me. I was immediately reminded of how much God cares for the children at Numan. More than I can imagine and that He is able to do beyond what we ask or imagine. Shortly after that we received a VERY generous donation from an anonymous donor.
It was that quick, I was reminded that this is not about me or what I do. It really is about God and His mighty provision. God is good...ALL the time.

Here we go..

We are very excited to see how God is going to meet the needs of Numan. We hope that you will partner with us by praying or sharing this blog with others. This blog contains the items that Numan currently needs and a few pictures donated by some very lovely ladies. We will kick off this fundraising journey by having a good ol' American bake sale. After all, who can deny a cupcake? We will keep you posted. Blessings!
